“The National Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP), the largest organization of Spanish-language newspapers and magazines in United States, condemns the closing of Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV), the premier television channel in Venezuela by the Hugo Chavez’s government.
“The NAHP considers the action against one of the opposition media outlets in Venezuela, a violation of freedom of expression by the Chávez regime. The NAHP repudiates the expropriation of the RCTV equipment, which represents an arbitrary act against the private property of a media institution”, said Clara Padilla Andrews, President of the NAHP.
May 27, 2007 was a sad and bitter day for the universal right to freedom of expression and information due to the cessation of RCTV, a 53 years old TV channel.
