“Those who knew Robert John Hinostro often spoke about his pioneering efforts as Oxnards first Latino police chief and his long list of other community contributions.

But to those closest to him, Hinostro was first and foremost a family man who was always there at every school event, sports game and family celebration, often playing his favorite songs on his harmonica.

Hinostro, a longtime Ventura County resident, died Friday at his Oxnard home of complications from pneumonia. He was 91.”
