She was hospitalized in early May after becoming ill around Easter, said her son, Dion Miller Perez. Ms. Miller was diagnosed with myelodysplasia 10 years ago, but she was in remission for the last seven years, he said.
An avid traveler and opera lover, Ms. Miller focused much of her professional life pushing for bilingual education and helping Hispanic children, specifically those with special education needs. She was a former Chicago Public School elementary school teacher and administrator.”
