Rhode Island lawmakers seem lukewarm on immigration bills

“State lawmakers appear to be lukewarm to dozens of bills designed to restrict illegal immigrants, including proposals filed after federal authorities raided a New Bedford, Mass., factory in March and detained hundreds of suspected illegal workers.

House leaders have expressed some interest in a bill that would force employers to use a federal database to verify whether potential employees have permission to work in the country.”
