Marí Quiñones, The Real Hispanic Power – Philadelphia
Tagged: latina, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Puerto RicanPosted on: May 21st, 2007“Even though official results are not yet available to learn exactly how many of the 72,842 Hispanic registered voters cast their ballot during the Democratic Primary elections in Philadelphia, it is clear and definite that Latinos did their job at District Council number 7.
It was more than 7.800 votes that granted Maria Quiñones-Sánchez her throne in that district and took it away from Daniel Savage who thus wished farewell to his reelection.
The landslide triumph of this Puerto Rican woman, with approximately 1,700 votes more than those obtained by her Anglo contender was transformed into the most significant event of the elections for various reasons, primarily because of her becoming the first Hispanic woman to win a seat in the council of the First Capital of America.”
