Many speak against new tuition rules for immigrants – Georgia

“Jesus Barreras plans to become an orthodontist have hit a major bump with a new University System of Georgia policy that would end his ability to pay in-state tuition.

“There is no way for me to keep going to college,” Barrera said.

He and 52 others spoke Monday to a panel of University System officials conducting a hearing on a policy that would make students who are unable to document that they are lawfully present in the United States ineligible for in-state tuition rates.”
