El Rey opens new store with cultural flourish – Milwaukee
Tagged: family, Milwaukee, WisconsinPosted on: May 7th, 2007“Nearly 30 years ago, the Villarreal family took a chance and opened a Mexican grocery store on S. 16th St., becoming the only Latino business on the street in the south side neighborhood.
Since then, Milwaukee’s Latino community has flourished and spread beyond the city’s south side. The Villarreal family continued to expand along with it. The Villarreals have added other stores, a tortilla factory and a line of salsa and other Mexican products. In the process, they have become one of the state’s largest and most successful Latino businesses.”
