“Twenty years ago, the first group of about two-dozen Mexican immigrants came, seeking temporary work as farmhands and dishwashers. Since then, the population has blossomed to at least 430 people just in the village and double that in the town, according to the 2000 Census, the most recent numbers available.

Despite that growth, Hispanic residents have remained a largely dispersed group with no community center to celebrate holidays, like todays Cinco de Mayo.”
