Knowledge is Power!
“A third-year medical student at the University of Kansas School of Medicine has been named to lead a national organization promoting the study of medicine among Latinos.
Ruben Font, Jr. was recently elected as the next national coordinator of the National Network of Latin American Medical Students NNLAMS, an organization intended to provide a voice for underrepresented medical students and to actively promote the recruitment and retention of Latino medical students.
The NNLAMS was founded in 2003 to unify five regional organizations of Latino medical students, some of which had been in existence for more than 30 years. While such organizations have a long history at U.S. medical schools, Font said it was exciting to have the chance to provide leadership during the formative years of the organization, helping to create a voice for Latino medical students across the country. “
