“Georgia immigrant rights groups seem to be sitting out the nationwide marches and protests scheduled for today in an effort to spur Congress to act on immigration reform before the looming presidential primaries take over the political landscape.

Marches, meetings and voter registration drives are planned today from California to New York — a year after one million people flexed their economic muscle in a nationwide boycott during last years May first activities. Last year for the boycott, many stores and malls in predominantly Hispanic neighborhoods were either shuttered or deserted in Atlanta. But no local group has announced any boycott or march today. And some of the organizers from last year say thats because immigrants in Georgia are afraid of the upcoming implementation of last years Senate Bill 529.”
