“Dell (NASDAQ:DELL) today launched DellenDirecto (http://www.dellendirecto.com), its official Spanish blog for customers, bloggers and other stakeholders who prefer to have online conversations in the first language spoken by about 330 million people worldwide(1).

“By listening directly to Spanish-speaking customers through digital forums and allowing for more conversations in their native language, Dell can deliver better, more customized products and a superior experience,” said Michael Dell, chairman and CEO of Dell.

The new blog was announced here today by Mr. Dell at the Endeavor Entrepreneur Summit. “Spanish is the third-most spoken language around the world and ranks number four in the blogosphere,” he said. “As the online population doubles from one to two billion people over the next few years, we will continue to have conversations in the language of choice for many of our customers.”

While a relatively nascent market, Internet use in Spanish-speaking countries is growing fast. Online use among Spanish speakers has increased more than 260 percent since 2000 and Internet penetration now stands at 20 percent of the population(2). Once on the Internet, 70 percent of Spanish speakers are more likely to read news and current events online, compared to 51 percent of non-Spanish speaking users(3).

Dell expects customers in Latin America, Spain and the United States to be the first to establish communications with Dell through DellenDirecto. Dell’s business in Latin America is one of its fastest growing regions.

DellenDirecto adds to the news channels available to the more than 80 percent of U.S. Hispanic adults who seek news in Spanish-language media on regular basis(4). At DellenDirecto, Dell management, engineering, customer care and sales personnel will listen to customers’ feedback, discuss IT trends, and blog about technology topics. Readers will be encouraged to suggest topics and leave comments to interact with Dell bloggers.

DellenDirecto is an extension of Dell’s English-language corporate blog Direct2Dell (www.direct2dell.com), which launched in July, 2006, and currently draws about 3 million page views per month. Dell also launched Direct2Dell in Chinese in March. The multi-language blogging capability is part of Dell’s digital media approach to have relevant conversations with its customers throughout the world.

In addition to its multi-language corporate blogs, Dell also recently launched IdeaStorm (www.dellideastorm.com), an online community where customers can post ideas on technology and Dell products, services and operations and StudioDell (www.studiodell.com), a video-share site enabling consumers, small businesses and IT professionals to watch, download and upload videos and podcasts to increase their knowledge of technology.
