“Most of the young men and women who make up the Chicago Club have never been there. But they still get sentimental when they talk about the city where their cousins, aunts or brothers have migrated to seek prosperity.

The names of unfamiliar suburbs and neighborhoods come easily. Joliet, where a cousin works in a greenhouse. Little Village, where another waits tables in a restaurant.

The Chicago Club is made up of relatives left behind by migration from the state capital of Michoacan. Government officials say it is the first “mirror club,” an innovative twist on the “hometown associations” in the United States that bring together Mexican immigrants from the same region.”
