Knowledge is Power!
“For centuries, families have passed down recipes to preserve tradition and authenticity. While delicious, many age-old recipes are often loaded with calories. This Dia del Niño, the HORMEL FOODS/HERDEZ Marketplace will celebrate with nutritious, but tasty authentic dishes from the past and updated recipes future generations can enjoy for years to come.
A growing issue for all Americans, childhood obesity disproportionately affects Mexican-Americans. In fact, according to a recent American Heart Association study, obesity affects more than 25 percent of Mexican-American boys and more than 15 percent of Mexican-American girls among children ages 6 - 11. For non-Hispanic whites, more than 15 percent of both boys and girls are obese.
Regardless of ethnicity, most children would agree that taste is their main concern, not calories. Chef Gustavo Chavez, better known as “El Chile Mayor” on Univision’s Despierta America, will be at Fiesta Broadway to sample flavorful and nutritious Mexican dishes for both children and adults. Nutritious and low calorie recipe ideas, food samples and more also will be available at the HORMEL FOODS/HERDEZ Marketplace.
