Chiori Santiago was a drumbeat of Bay Area arts scene
Tagged: book, California, children, latina, San FranciscoPosted on: April 23rd, 2007“CHIORI Santiago was a talented writer and promoter of the arts who died far too soon. She was just 54 when she died April 14 after battling kidney cancer for less than a year.
Santiago had a fierce love of the arts, life and people and so she leaves an aching void. Its like a heartbeat or a drumbeat of the Bay Area arts scene has gone silent.
She left an impressive body of work, including articles in the Smithsonian Magazine, a childrens book, “Home to Medicine Mountain,” literature about the Mexican Museum and the National Japanese American Historical Society. She also leaves two sons, Roberto and Ignacio. And so many friends. She had a way of making you feel closely connected even if you saw her only a couple of times a year.”
