“As the Latino population has exploded in Manatee and Sarasota counties, so have Spanish-speaking churchgoers. On Sundays, services in Spanish are packing the pews.

Three Roman Catholic congregations particularly reflect the changing demographics. In large part, Spanish-speaking parishioners at Sacred Heart, Holy Cross and St. Jude are immigrants from Mexico. St. Jude also serves a large Cuban and Puerto Rican population. Other large communities include immigrants from Guatemala, Peru, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Brazil and throughout Latin America.”
