Larry Frank Collection: Art appraisal goes to second highest bidder

“The Department of Cultural Affairs announced Friday that Joan Caballero of Santa Fe will inspect and assess the value of the controversial Larry Frank collection of Hispanic devotional art.

The Legislature has appropriated $3 million to “purchase and preserve” the 263 artworks in the collection, but department secretary Stuart Ashman has said the appropriation is much like getting a “pre-approved” loan from a bank: All aspects of the deal are open to negotiation. “
