“As the camera rolled, Livorio G. Correa described how a Mexican-American farm boy from San Elizario was transformed by serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.

“It showed us that there was a different way of life, and when we came back, we fought for it,” he said. “If theres equality in the service, there should be equality at home.”

Correa, drafted into the Army Air Corps, said he was a noncombatant on missions of search and rescue and emergency landing-strip detours.”
