Latin music’s passion fades after two hot years

“The recording industry’s sales star in recent years, Latin music is now seeing a tarnish on its shine.

Shipments of Latin music plummeted a precipitous 21 percent last year over 2005, to $595 million, according to a report from the Recording Industry Association of America released this week.

The reversal, driven by rampant CD bootlegging and immigrants tightening of their purse strings, comes on the heels of two years of robust growth in Latin music. For 2004 and 2005, it was the recording industrys best-performing genre.”
