Mujeresvisión Showcases Diverse Latin Identities – Pennsylvania
Tagged: latina, Pennsylvania, stereotypesPosted on: April 18th, 2007“Mujeresvisión, a culture show produced by Bryn Mawr’s Mujeres, strove in various entertaining ways to break some of the stereotypes surrounding the word “Latina.” One stereotype they embraced, however, was the one that says Latinas are passionate.
The high-energy show was staged as a series of television shows featuring dance, spoken word poetry, skits, and some actual television. The emcees, Jesenia Gervacio “07 and Monica Munin ’10, played La Abuela and La Chica, respectively. Between each act, they fought over “the remote” and disputed the differences between the tastes of yesterday’s Latino generation and today’s. What emerged was a battle of “old school” music and dance vs. the “new school.””
