Latin music bucks US sales fall – for now

“Specialising in Latin music could be a life-saver for CD shops in the US, which have suffered a big fall in sales in recent years because of piracy and internet downloads.

Research company Nielsen Soundscan, which compiles the official US charts, says that in 2006, album sales fell 4.9% to 588 million units.

By contrast, Latin music sales increased by 5.2% over the same period, notching up 37 million units. “
