“Tejano music was likely never accompanied by the earth-shattering boom of a mortar bomb until the Central Texas band Lumbre traded cowboy hats for combat helmets and performed live for U.S. troops in Iraq.

The group of five men, ranging in age from 22 to 51, began performing about six years ago, playing at small Tejano clubs in Waco, Killeen and Temple. Slowly but steadily, they gained popularity, eventually releasing two albums. The latest was nominated for a Tejano Music Award last year.”
