“Through the mentoring program of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast, the pair reads together under the trees in the courtyard of Perlas school, Palm View Elementary, north of Palmetto.
In the year Gonzalez has mentored Perla, teachers have told the organization that Perlas schoolwork and confidence in herself have improved significantly.
“Weve established a good relationship,” Gonzalez said Wednesday, after a visit with Perla. “Shes done very well.”"
