“In his younger days, Ben Benavidez was outspoken, fiery and dedicated to helping underserved communities receive the help they needed.
Now 60 and partially immobilized by two strokes, Benavidez says the desire to help others still motivates him — even if his body wont let him work as hard.
On Saturday, Benavidez — a former president of the Mexican-American Political Association and a longtime civil-rights activist — was honored for his lifetime achievements at the annual Latino Legends of the 20th Century awards in downtown Fresno.”
