Group: Don’t use cops to ID illegals in Morris – New Jersey
Tagged: library, Morristown, New Jersey, policePosted on: March 27th, 2007“A Morris County coalition of business, religious and civil rights leaders is fiercely opposing a proposal by Morristowns mayor to allow police to check the immigration status of people in the town.
Speaking at a press conference at the county library in Whippany, leaders of the group said Monday it had gathered more than 3,000 signatures opposing the police procedure. It also warned that deputizing police as immigration agents would divide a community that has long prided itself on its diversity, overwhelm an already taxed police force, and lay the groundwork for racial profiling and civil rights violations.”
