“The Santiago family is among hundreds of immigrant families who have changed the face of West Marin over the past decade and prompted new programs in the Shoreline district, which has the highest percentage of Hispanic students of any school district in Marin County. And although white children still outscore Hispanics on state tests, scores are increasing for both groups, and the gap between them is closing.

“People are working extra to bring these kids up,” said Trustee Jane Healy. “They come to our schools to learn, and we want to teach them.”"
