Espinoza contrasts tradition with modernity’s demands – STILL WATER SAINTS by Alex Espinosa
Tagged: book, Cuba, CubanPosted on: March 25th, 2007“Espinoza’s first novel is an episodic tale revolving around Perla Portillo, “a Bruja. A Santa. A Divina. A Medium, Phrophet, and Healer.” Perla runs the Botánica OshÚn, a herbal store in the Southern California town of Agua Mansa.
As its name suggests, Agua Mansa is heavily Hispanic, and Perla is part of that community. Her healing skills and training were acquired from a part-Cuban, part-Mexican medicine man who revealed to her the secrets of Santeria.”
