“The county school board is expected to hear plans next week for a pilot program that would teach comprehensive job training and language skills to a small number of immigrant Latino high school students.
Karen C. Woodson, the school system’s director of ESOLâ„Bilingual Programs, said she has noticed an increasing number of immigrants who come to high school after fleeing their countries because of civil unrest andâ„or poverty. They enter the school system with limited English and not enough skills necessary to work a job, she said.”
