Knowledge is Power!
“On Saturday May 26, 2007 Latin Alt Rockers, Volumen Cero will headline for The Brown Note Latin Rock Project’s debut concert: Music for Smart PEOPLE. Joining Volumen Cero will be special guests Los Abandoned and Luminous Family Trust.
Fervent Rockera, Ann Blankenship, developed The Brown Note Latin Rock Project to serve as a vehicle for promoting innovative Latin rock music and for fostering collaborations among forward thinking rock musicians who are continually expanding and exploring the possibilities of rock and of traditional Latin music. Far from being strictly a concert, Brown Note is a think tank, brain trust and artistic convergence of like-minded souls.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Although belonging to a family of accomplished musicians including the legendary jazz musician Charles Mingus, Ann Blankenship had never played an instrument until 1999 when she began drumming with the Brazilian cultural arts group. “I figured that I had to start playing some kind of instrument so that my family wouldn’t think that I was adopted!”Since 1999 Ms. Blankenship has been highly active in supporting her local arts community and in 2002 she was asked to join the Carnaval San Francisco Advisory Board. Participation in Carnaval exposed her to the many musical traditions of the Americas and fed up with the rather homogenous sounds of mainstream American pop she began venturing beyond musical borders to discover what else was happening musically throughout the Americas.
Ann’s musical journey soon led her to discover Latin Alternative Rock. “I just heard a riff from Plastilina Mosh’s “Te Lo Juro Por Madonna” and I was hooked –for LIFE! For the first time in about 20 years I’ve actually begun buying music regularly and attending concerts. And soon I began thinking of ways to support this movement of really innovative musicians.” And thus, Brown Note was born.
