Racial slurs made Hispanic policemans life tougher – Arizona
Tagged: Arizona, family, policePosted on: March 18th, 2007“Racial prejudice within the Chandler Police Department during the 1960s and 70s made his job as one of the citys first Hispanic officers difficult and dangerous, Manuel Valenzuela Sr. said.
“I was sent out on foot patrol with no backup,” he said during a family history presentation this week to the Chandler Historical Society. His son, Manuel Jr., showed the audience photos of his fathers bloodied face and hands taken in the mid-1960s after the young officer was assaulted by thieves.”
