“Reports that recent federal immigration sweeps in the Bay Area may have violated the Constitution have prompted the American Civil Liberties Union to file a Freedom of Information Act request seeking records related to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency’s regional operations.

The request, filed Tuesday, seeks information on a series of immigration sweeps, which fall under the rubric “Operation Return to Sender” ”” a blitzkrieg of immigration enforcement actions that have led to the arrests of 18,000 people since June.”
