“A training program that would let local deputies enforce some federal immigration laws could be in the future of the Brown County Sheriffs Department, with the support of some local politicians and despite the concern of members of the Hispanic community.

Brown County Sheriff Dennis Kocken is studying the program, called 287-g after the section of federal immigration law that authorizes it. Kocken and his staff are not sure they can participate yet, but they received information last week from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. Sheriffs departments in North Carolina and Ohio, among others, already are participating.”
