“College could be in 16-year-old Junior Portillo’s future even though financial barriers loom large in his mind.
“I think it is. It’s just that I’m thinking there are a couple of things in my way, like money,” Portillo said Wednesday during a college seminar at East Tennessee State University for Hispanic high school students. “I think I want to be a translator or something similar to that, like a teacher maybe, but at least something to do with how I speak Spanish fluently and English fluently.””
