“Mario Gutierrez, the son of immigrants, became the first Latino in the nation to win the “Oscar” of the world of health philanthropy.

Gutierrez, Sacramento-based director of Rural and Agricultural Worker Health Programs for The California Endowment, administers a $50 million program to help the poorest Californians get health care, housing and protection against pesticides and labor abuses.”
