“An ongoing national eye study using La Puente as a template is now trying to determine why Latinos are at high risk for eye disease and other vision problems.

Throughout the next year, the Los Angeles Latino Eye Study will continue to give free follow-up eye examinations to 6,537 La Puente residents, officials said.

The residents had participated in an earlier study that showed many people in the Latino community had been suffering from eye diseases they were unaware of, including diabetic eye disease and glaucoma.”
