“Margaret Cruz, hailed as the “Little Giant of the Mission District” for her small physique but big political fights, died at her home in San Francisco Feb. 6 from complications of breast cancer. She was 86.

A behind-the-scenes matriarch to much of San Franciscos Latino community since the 1940s, Mrs. Cruz rose in profile in 1960 when she left a job as a theatrical agent and co-founded the Mexican American Political Association.”
