“Growing up in a border town certainly has it perks. One is exposed to two languages, two cultures, and plenty of delicious Mexican dishes. Yep, of the aforementioned, I’d certainly have to say that the latter is my favorite.

However, even though I have always been a relatively small woman””a tall 5’0’’ to be exact but my license reads 5’1’’””I never realized the obesity epidemic within my own culture until I left Eagle Pass and attended college in Houston, Texas. Yes, Houston certainly has its own share of obesity problems, for it has often been deemed “one of the fattest cities in America,” but until I started doing some research and casually started monitoring the knowledge of nutrition or lack thereof within my own culture, I realized that there is a strong need for nutrition and health education in our community.”
