“Luis Suarez says he knew what he was getting into when he took over in September as president of the Asociacion Borinquena de Florida Central, a social club that is the regions largest Puerto Rican organization.
The organization was facing economic pressures over the cost of its clubhouse. The club was divided — sell it and move elsewhere or find a way to pay. Suarez, twice a chess champion in his native Puerto Rico and a retired sales executive with Hewlett Packard, says he is not the type to shy away from a challenge. But he is down to the wire, with the club facing a deadline next month. He has yet to get the organization on a new payment schedule for the remainder of the $1.8 million debt it incurred in building its east Orlando home. Suarez spoke to Sentinel reporter Victor Manuel Ramos.”
