“Before the ancient Peruvian city of Chaví­n de Huántar was left to relics and history, the civilization had a much larger impact than many archeologists believe, said Richard Burger, professor and curator of anthropology at Yale Universitys Peabody Museum of Natural History, Tuesday.

Burger specifically debated the belief that the city was abandoned after an earthquake shattered the inhabitants religious piety, like many of his contemporaries claim. Rather, he argued that a mud slide may have caused severe structural damage to the citys temple after the civilization died out.”
