“Staffers are speculating that New York City’s two main Spanish-language newspapers could enter a merger. Tribune Co. could likely sell scandal-plagued Hoy to Impremedia’s El Diario.

“There is a trend of mergers and newspapers buying other newspapers. It could be good for Hoy if it strengthened its resources, but it could also mean a loss of jobs and of diversity,” said Marta Garcia, president of the National Hispanic Media Coalition.”
