Maya Tech empowers the global village by bits, bytes
Tagged: children, Guatemala, OhioPosted on: February 5th, 2007“Camilo Macario, who grew up in the mountains of Guatemala, saw his first computer at age 20, only after he had found his way to Kansas on a college scholarship in 1990. “I just sort of sat there in front of it and had my friends take a picture I could send home. I didnt even know how to power it up.”
As one of 10 Mayan children living in a small adobe home in the town of Nahuala, Macario struggled against poverty and discrimination in his native country to get an education and find a better life. Now a software consultant for NCR, Macario credits providence and computers for making him a successful part of the global village.”
