“Department of Health and Human Services, is heading up a newly created position, Director of Hispanic Mentoring, for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest, largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the country, serving 250,000 youth in one-to-one mentoring relationships.
In this new role, Rodriguez will be responsible for driving the expansion and implementation of the Hispanic Mentoring Strategic Initiative for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Rodriguez will work closely with Hispanic institutions, both locally and nationally, to enhance partnerships and programs focused on serving the Hispanic community and increasing the number of Hispanic child and Big Brother/Big Sister matches. Rodriguez previously led technical assistance and consulting services for one of the largest public health non-profits in the region, the Philadelphia Health Management Corporation. During her years at Congreso de Latinos Unidos, she led the Latino Workforce Development Taskforce, a coalition of community, government, and university leaders in developing a strategic workforce development agenda for Philadelphias Hispanic community.

Rodriguez, who holds a Masters degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas, Austin, and a Bachelors degree in Comparative Area Studies from Duke University, has taught college level courses on Latino social, economic, and political development. She recently finished her doctoral dissertation in Urban Education at Temple University and will receive her Ph.D. in the spring of this year. Most recently, Rodriguez published an article “Raising our Family at the Cultural Crossroads” in the book, Chicken Soup for the Latino Soul. Rodriguez serves on several non-profit boards.”
