Immigrants need help learning English – opinion of Colleen Puentes – Oregon
Tagged: children, latina, Oregon, studentPosted on: January 24th, 2007“Many people believe that all immigrants in the United States should learn English. I agree. English proficiency provides access to a better life: more services, better health care, higher education and higher wages. I don’t agree with the belief that immigrants just dont want to learn English.
I am a proud Latina Republican who believes in self-sufficiency and empowering people, not stereotyping. I have taught English as a Second Language for children and adults in California and Oregon. After 13 years of ESL experience, the students who really want to learn English far outweigh those who dont.”
