“David Alcala was raised by a single mother who never learned English in an east Highland neighborhood that looked like a little piece of in the 1920s.

The was poor, but Alcala managed to rise above his circumstances and became the only Mexican to graduate from Redlands High School in 1929, according to members.

After overcoming obstacles in his own childhood, he went on to mentor Latino boys in the area.”
