“Growing up in Cuba, the only thing Gilberto Palacios ever wanted to do was draw.

But there was one problem: they didn’t sell art supplies in his native Havana.

“I used the paper bags they give you at the store,” Palacios, 52, said in careful English. “There was no other thing.””
