Spotlight on Carlos Irizarry
Tagged: Florida, Orlando, reporterPosted on: January 10th, 2007“As the first native of Puerto Rico to serve on the Kissimmee City Commission, Carlos Irizarry has gotten a lot of attention for his victory at the polls — particularly because hes the first to succeed where many others have failed.
Before November, Kissimmee was a political oddity: a city of more than 50,000 residents where 46 percent of registered voters are Hispanic but no Hispanic had ever been elected to office. Irizarry, who attributes his success more to years of community involvement than his ethnicity or place of birth, recently spoke with Sentinel reporter Mark Pino.”
