“Gante is one of hundreds of people, many of them Mexican immigrants, who pour their time, money and emotion into Hispanic soccer leagues in Memphis. There are at least two leagues and more than 100 teams, organizers say.
The popularity of the sport reflects the growing number of Hispanics in the Memphis area as well as their entrepreneurial spirit and financial success. Many of the teams depend on funding from small immigrant-run businesses like Gantes.”
