“One home stands out in the tiny Mexican village of Malacatepec. Among the one-room huts stands a five-bedroom house paid for with earnings from a Central New York dairy farm.

Next Saturday, a group of dairy farmers from Upstate New York will leave for Mexico on a trip sponsored by Cornell University that will take them to Malacatepec pronounced Ma-la-cah-TAH-pec, part of an effort to help the farmers understand the culture and motivations of their workers.

The trip comes at a difficult time for immigrants, many of whom are here illegally, and the dairy farmers who increasingly rely on them.”
