“An historic number of Latino lawmakers and officials will serve in leadership positions in the 110th Congress and in the Bush administration, drawing praise Wednesday from national Hispanic rights groups.

Nowhere is the rising clout of Latinos more evident than in Congress, where U.S. Rep. Sylvestre Reyes, D-El Paso, will serve as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and Rep. Nydia Velazquez, D-N.Y., as House Small Business Committee chairman.”
