“Delaware childcare providers spend hours in classes each year learning skills such as CPR and pediatric first aid, or studying how children develop and learn.

Dozens attending the mandated classes, though, sit through the 120 hours of training unable to understand a word of the English-only curriculum.

A $20,000 grant from the Carl M. Freeman Foundation will change that for Spanish-speaking participants. The Family & Workplace Connection, which administers the Delaware First career development system for early-care professionals, will use the money to translate curricula into Spanish. Spanish-language classes will follow.”
