Latino family climbing ladder of success one town at a time – New Jersey

Tagged: , , ,

“The Rodriguezes are part of a small but growing number of Hispanic families who have moved into affluent New Jersey towns since 2000. While a majority of the states Hispanic public school students are in urban areas, more and more live in places like Westfield, the Caldwells and Millstone, public school enrollment data show.

In Westfield, a town of 29,700 where the average income exceeds $151,000, the number of Hispanics enrolled in public schools is modest. But between 2000 and 2006, they more than doubled, from 82 to 190. That represents about 3 percent of the towns predominantly white school population.”
